La Drache is a Franco-Belgian performing arts company supported by the FWB (Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles), founded and directed by Juliette Chevalier, choreographer and performer from northern France, based in Lille and Brussels. The company’s creations explore questions of identity, freedom, and collective utopias through performative dance, scenographic research, and the construction of objects on the body.
The company’s first piece, Beste Cantate, is a work on the Dunkirk carnival that reconciles queer thinking with Ch’ti folklore.
La Drache is currently developing a second piece, Bocson, created for six performers. The piece is still in progress and will premiere on January 19, 2027, at Mars – Mons Arts de la Scène. Bocson will explore issues of identity and freedom applied to the feminine figure.
Juliette began dancing at the age of four and later completed a Bachelor’s degree in Dance at the University of Lille 3, in partnership with the CCN of Roubaix. She further developed her practice at the ÉSA of Tourcoing, where she explored performative work combining body, scenography, and visual arts, and obtained her DNSEP.
After two years of studio work at La Malterie in Lille, she joined the Charleroi Danse program in Brussels, collaborating with choreographers such as Boris Charmatz, Lia Rodrigues, and Sophie Perez, and performing in Tempête by Boris Charmatz at the Grand Palais Éphémère in 2021.
Juliette created her first piece, Beste Cantate, a carnival blending queer thought and Northern folklore, and is currently working on her second piece, Bocson. She also co-directed a short film inspired by Beste Cantate, filmed during the Dunkirk carnival.
Her practice explores performance, choreography, visual arts, and video. She lives in Brussels and works between Brussels, Lille, and Paris.
