Beste Cantate is the first piece by the company La Drache, created by Juliette Chevalier, and has been touring since 2023. Beste Cantate is a visual and sonic experience, a collective and physical celebration inspired by carnival and the many expressions of identity. Drawing from the Dunkirk carnival and queer imaginaries, the eight dancers explore the subversive role of popular festivities and ask: how can we imagine a new carnival together? In this creation, responding to certain racist and sexist deviations of the carnival, Beste Cantate leads us through a collective and physical jubilation, reinventing the carnival’s chaos while reclaiming the positive energy of this folkloric heritage.
